Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the 911\u2019s debut, the 911 Carrera 4 hit the market in the fall of 1988. After the so-called G-model had been in production for over 16 years, the 964 model series was 85 percent redesigned. The 911 Carrera 4 catapulted the concept of the rear-mounted air-cooled boxer engine\u2014which had already been written off\u2014into the present with state-of-the-art technology. As the first production sports car with all-wheel drive, the Carrera 4 was even far ahead of its time.<\/p>\n

In February 1991, Porsche announced a minor sensation to the press: the 964 RS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The second edition of the legendary 1973 Carrera RS was announced for the summer of 1991. The new RS was based on the 964-generation 911 Carrera 2 used in the Carrera Cup. Even the small press photo of the 964 RS made it clear just how attractive the 964 looked with its larger, wider 17-inch wheels in Cup design, the lowered sports suspension, and the aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors.<\/p>\n
