The second part of the event series ‘30 years of the Porsche 993’ took place at the Boxenstop Museum in Tübingen. Berlin Motor Books and Boxenstop owner Rainer Klink organised this special themed evening. The event was so well attended with over 100 guests that some interested parties who were not on the guest list were unfortunately unable to attend due to limited capacity.

Porsche-993 project manager Bernd Kahnau at the site
Bernd Kahnau was on site in Tübingen as a major highlight of the event. Bernd Kahnau took over the project management of the Porsche 993 in 1989 and put his own personal stamp on the last air-cooled Porsche 911, which he developed together with his team. Today, the 993 generation is one of the most sought-after among the classic model series of the nine-eleven.

In an interview, Bernd Kahnau talked about how his father, Willi Kahnau, set up production at Porsche in Zuffenhausen in the early 1950s. He then gave the guests an insight into the project management of the last air-cooled nine-eleven and reported on test drives with the 993 prototypes through the USA. He also showed some unpublished footage from the trials.

Porsche 993 designer Tony Hatter at the Boxenstop Museum
The Porsche 993 theme evening at the Boxenstop Museum was a very special event, as Porsche 993 designer Tony Hatter was also on hand.
Tony Hatter’s vision for the Porsche 993 resulted in one of the most beautiful and fascinating 911s ever created. Due to its attractive proportions, the balanced interplay of concave and convex shapes and the integrated bumpers, the last air-cooled 911 is still ‘the great love’ for many Porsche drivers to this day.

In an interview, Tony Hatter told exciting anecdotes from the design phase of the Porsche 993, after which he was available to answer questions from participants and signed the Porsche 993 30th anniversary books.
Porsche 993 test driver Dieter Röscheisen also on site in Tübingen
As the third guest of honour, Dieter Röscheisen was also welcomed by the guests with a big round of applause.

Dieter Röscheisen was responsible for the tyre testing of the Porsche 993. In 1992 and 1993, Dieter Röscheisen travelled the world with various 993 prototypes for testing purposes. Dieter Röscheisen told the interested audience how it came about that a film about the tyre development of the Porsche 993 was even made on the Nürburgring with him and Walter Röhrl. The film from 1993 was then shown.

Dieter Röscheisen then reported on his business trips at Porsche, which even took him as far as Japan. Afterwards, Dieter Röscheisen was available for discussions and signed the books ‘Porsche 993 – 30 Years 1994-2024’.

After the end of the event, the guests met on the upper floor of the museum in the Bistro Büssinghalle and ended the evening with lively discussions.
