A difficult period for the Porsche 911
In the mid-seventies, times were tough for the Porsche 911. Modern vehicle concepts such as the 924 or 928 were very popular internally at Porsche. Board member Dr. Fuhrmann even planned the Porsche 928 as the successor to the legendary nine-eleven. Production of the most important car for Porsche to this day was to be discontinued at the end of 1982.
The savior of the Porsche 911
During this time, a German engineer and his dedicated team campaigned for the survival of the nine-eleven and put up considerable resistance to the plans of the Board of Management. It is thanks to them that the Porsche 911 survived this critical phase. The internal power struggles at Porsche are reported on for the first time. Author Andreas Gabriel was even able to meet the man who should be considered the real savior of the 911.
Friedrich Bezner worked at Porsche for 47 years
Friedrich Bezner and his team campaigned for the survival of the Porsche 911 during this critical time and continued to develop the 911 without an official mandate in order to eliminate the few weak points of the 911 and thus ensure its survival.
After the “rescue of the nine-eleven”, Bezner was in charge of the Porsche 964 and Porsche 993 projects from 1988 to 1995. From August 1995, Bezner took over the project management of the first water-cooled 911 Turbo of the 996 generation. After more than 47 years at Porsche, Friedrich Bezner’s working phase ended in August 2001.
The book introduces the employee behind the most popular interior designs of Porsche sports cars of the seventies, eighties and nineties. The then head of design Anatole Lapine hired Vlasta Hatter in 1976. Together they developed the legendary Pascha Velour upholstery design.
